Lifehacker - Is Your Handwriting Up to Snuff? - Handwriting

I usually don't refer to lifehacker.com because of the simple fact that everybody has probably seen in already. However, I really liked this piece on handwriting. My handwriting is kinda okay (I started using a keyboard relatively late in my life) but there is always room for improvement.

And I miss writing letters.

Gonzo!

It's not really a secret that I am a big fan of Hunter S. Thompson, especially the earlier stuff, roughly up to Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72. The later stuff...well, it's okay, but after that he was...how should I put this...past his prime. However, I really enjoyed reading the three volumes of letters that have been published over the last few years and only a few days ago I finally got around to watch GONZO: The Life and Work of Hunter S. Thompson, which I can highly recommend. It has a ton of original footage, interviews with Ralph Steadman, HST's ex-wifes, and other fellow travelers. And if you can stand Johnny Depp reading some HST while waving a six-shooter around (I wonder whose idea that was...) - more power to you.

Learn how to TYPE again!

I was a little sceptical in the beginning, but after playing around with this app for an extended period of time I have to admit that it is a great little app. Remember typewriters? Well, I do. And one thing I remember was: if you make a mistake, tough luck, my friend, it's RE-TYPE TIME!. So, moving on to word editors on the computer was a blessing. Everything could be erased, the bliss of the DELETE button!

However, the grass is always greener on the other side. This is where Typewriter comes in, which is just that -- the terror of the linear line! No deleting, no moving around, just writing. Which is horrible, because it rubbed my bad typing right in. But after you get over this, there is actually a benefit: totally unconfined stream-of-consciousness, which is incredibly freeing. Give it a whirl, it's great!
